French Bronze Boy Holding Carp Fountain
An enchanting bronze fountain depicting a Boy holding a carp. Mid to late 20th Century.
The classical figure of the boy, or putti, stands upon a raised rock while a little turtle snaps at his feet. The composition is set upon a delicately scalloped shell shaped bowl surmounting a central support which is adorned with flora and flanked with four realistic elegant swans as supports.
The bronze is beautifully worked and cast, with expressive fine detail and naturalistic representation of the boy with his chubby cheeks and sculpted locks. The surface of the bronze being verdantly patinated with mottled verdigris.
When running, water will jet from the carps mouth into the shell below. A delightful addition to any garden or orangery!
