Dutch Delft Apothecary Jar Inscribed “C. Rosarum”, Late 17th/Early 18th Century

Dutch Delft Apothecary Jar Inscribed “C. Rosarum”, Late 17th/Early 18th Century

A beautiful Dutch Delft tin-glazed earthenware apothecary jar of elegant footed form, painted in underglaze cobalt blue with birds and scrolling strapwork framing a bold cartouche inscribed “C. ROSARUM.” — the traditional abbreviated pharmacy label for a rose preparation (rose conserve) once used in compounding remedies.

Made for display on an apothecary shelf, the reverse is left plain so the decorated face and inscription read clearly from across the room. The base bears an “AK” monogram, and the jar has the soft, slightly uneven tin glaze and gentle kiln speckling typical of period Delftware.

Condition very good, small chip to foot rim.
