Life-size Italian Processional Madonna Late 18th/Early 19th Century
A rare and beautiful example of an early Italian Processional Madonna. Late 18th Century/ Early 19th Century. This wonderful adaptation of the Virgin Mary has the most delicate and refined life-like features. Her arms are articulated for a variety of poses. She sits almost reclining, and would have been dressed in magnificent fabrics to be paraded through the Town or the City only once or twice a year on important religious dates. To survive in this condition is rare. To be so finely modelled with such serene features and deep aqua blue eyes - rarer still. A truly wondrous collectors piece, and an incredible piece of devotional art. Approx 4ft 9” in body height.
