Venetian Gondola Lantern. c.1790-1820. A wonderful example of a Venetian Gondola lantern mounted on a naive folk art stand. These have been heavily collected from the 1750’s when it was fashionable for large English Country Houses to have original Italian Gondolas with their lanterns lit upon their lakes and rivers. For reference there’s a wonderful collection of such lanterns in Newby Hall, North Yorkshire.
