Venetian Late Baroque Mirror
An absolutely gorgeous Venetian Mirror with original mercury glass. c.1770. The mirror has incredible wear and patina, to both the frame and the glass (which has breaks), and has been historically repaired in a very naive way. The piece epitomises the idea of the perfectly imperfect. It is extremely fragile and beautiful. It’s imperfections enhance the nature of the piece, which has a quality which we would keep just as is. The light from the main central mirror has pooled reflections, it is foxed, irregular and illusive. The gilded gesso carved frame almost worn back to its original Sangue di Bue bole.
